70″ x 78″ – large twin-sized, modern quilt
Flying Colours features 58 blocks in all, with graduated colours flowing from warm to cool. I used the Kona New Bright Palette Roll-up of modern, solid colours for the cascading brights, each with a black centre for contrast, and a charm pack of Victoria prints, which I feel coordinated beautifully for the flags. Everything is set against a white-on-white fabric of small hummingbird images.
The size works really well for a number of places including a standard twin bed where it has a generous drop on each side, as well as on a couch, or even summer porch furniture where the colours will say sit and stay a while!
I pieced this quilt, while it was longarm quilted by Helen Blaskievich of Peterborough. It was inspired by a pattern appearing in McCall’s Quick Quilts by Designer Laurie Vandergriff. It features a lovely floral on the back, and is fully reversible. A narrow, hand-stitched 1/4″ binding finishes it off.
100% cotton inside and out including Warm & White quilt batting. Easily washable and made to last!
